What is The Noise Project?
We try to look after Markyate, and share the good we’ve been given: time, skills, resources and friendship. Over the past few years, we’ve done this by choosing 3 days each summer and bringing dozens of volunteers together to tackle some of Markyate’s needs.
Noise projects have included anything from gardening and DIY for people who might need a hand, right through to redecorating Markyate Primary School. Tonnes—literally!—of rubbish, rubble, and recyclables have been hauled away and dozens of new coats of paint have been applied as teams of volunteers have got stuck in. The idea is to help in any way, and to give people the opportunity to make a difference to their village.
Why?
The Noise is simply the overflow of the good things we’ve been given. God’s love for us has not just been feelings or words: but the very skills, time resources and friendships we have. The Noise is a way to share this love with Markyate by matching volunteers of all ages with needs and sharing our time and skills to make a difference to our village. One of the most exciting things about the Noise, is that it’s open to young and old, with dozens of young people pitching in and working together every year. It began in Markyate with a group of teenagers repainting fences and litter-picking, and continues as young people making a difference.
Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)
